Heating and Cooling

The HVAC contract was awarded to Hoyle Holt Allied Services Company located in Ardmore.  Their design was a creative design that allows a stepped-up usage by allowing one or several units to be used at a time.  We will also have full manual control of the duration of  operation of each of the units so that they needn't run until staff returns the next day.  We will also have the flexibility to maintain any one of the units separate from the others, so that in the event one is not functioning at a given time, three others would be available.

The main auditorium will have four 25-ton Carrier air-to-air units that will be set on the roof above the stage on structural beams that suspend the units over the roof surface in order to allow proper roofing maintenance in the future.  The large ducts will be fed into the barrel-topped roof side and distributed throughout.  All the old ductwork was demolished.  Two smaller units will provide supplemental air - one for the entry and restrooms and one for the stage.  The design for the stage can be modified at a later time, in the event stage lighting is increased dramatically.

This design was a challenge due to the demands of the code and the need for fresh air for times of peak occupancy and extreme weather conditions.  The sizing of the units gives us about a 10% buffer at maximum capacity at mid-afternoon and very hot weather conditions, without the need of pre-cooling the building which will also be available to engage.

We were also pleasantly surprised to be able to include natural gas heating via the new units which will allow us to remove the old boiler system and subsurface air distribution contained under and within the foundation and structure of the building.  This will help in our operating efficiencies and will allow us to keep dust and allergic potential at a minimum.
